It's a good sign of any puzzle game that's there's enough complexity in it tokeep you at it for half an hour without any kind of instruction or any reference to the rules. Even better when you consider this isn't any regular Tetris/Boulderdash/Pengo clone, but actually quite original. Even better than that you get to control a fruit-fixated Chameleon called Leon, what more do you want ? - Blood !?!
In a nutshell, it's a cutesy no-rush top-down pick-em up game where the key to success is all in the order in which you collect coloured fruit and how you position yourself in order to get at them. You collect fruit with your extendable lizardly tongue, and can leap across gaps in the process. The colour of fruit you can pick up depends on your current skin colour, and the colour you change to is dependant on the colour of the leaves of that fruit. Yikes, enough fruit and colour already ! i'm 'freaking out' ! But you get the general idea, yes?
The graphics are the right side of functional, and the four different level backgrounds are individual enough. Leon himself is a tad uncharismatic and under animated in-game, but makes up slightly for this in the inter-level cut scenes. The sounds are the usual bleepy-beep beep stuff. But it's the level design that matters most here, and it's fine and dandy with a non-irritating learning curve. All in all, Airplay's first game is an enjoyable distraction and worthy of the average mobile puzzle fan's attention.
