In order to see your abs you must burn off all visible bodyfat around the abdominal region. However you can not single out that area without losing bodyfat everywhere else. In scientific sense you must burn more calories than you consume in order to keep losing bodyfat. You can either eat fewer calories or burn more calories by doing more cardio or increasing your metabolism.

Since I assume you are training at home I will pretend we have no equipment and work with that. The type of training that will increase your metabolism is high intensity interval training.

So for example do the following:

* body weight squats for 1 minute
* push-ups for a minute
* jog in place for 30 seconds, then rest 30 seconds.
* mountain climbers for 45 seconds
* high knees in place for 30 seconds, then rest 30 seconds
* jump rope or pretend your jumping rope for 90 seconds
* 10 squat thrusts and rest again for 30 seconds
* squat into a calf raise for 30 reps followed by a pushup hold for 1 minute

Even if you do this series for 20 minutes 3 days per week you will see great results!

First of all your metabolism will stay higher for the next 18 hours like 10-15% higher. Second and this is crucial, of the calories that you are burning over the next 18 hours a significantly higher proportion will be bodyfat rather than muscle. A sedentary person burns around 50% of their calories as sugar and 50% is bodyfat on a daily basis. After this kind of interval training your body will burn around 90% bodyfat and only 10% sugar for the next 18 hours.

This means you will look far more toned far faster!
