Subject: How to - install 3rd software using DM [Print This Page]

Author: bb818    Time: 18-11-2007 09:22 PM     Subject: How to - install 3rd software using DM

To install 3rd  software using the DM( desktop manager):
1. First you need to download the .alx files to your PC, just point your browser to the software (sometimes a zip file that includes alx/cod).

2. Unzip the file to your PC's Desktop.

3. Connect your BlackBerry to your PC and then launch the DM .

4. From Desktop manager open 'Application Loader'.

5. In the Application Loader click 'Next' .Type your password, if you have a device password set.

6.Click Next and in 'Handheld Application Selection' screen, click 'Add'.

7. Go to the directory for the program you want to add (usually what you unzipped to your desktop), select the
.alx file, and click 'Open'

8. The application is now added to the software list, verify that it's checked and click Next.

9. Now you can click Finish. The wizard will run.

10. Verify that your software is loaded on the Blackberry

I have tried the vib & ring app and the AmazeGPS app.  Both times the App loader says no additional software.   I have unzipped with WinZip and moved the .alx file to my desktop. Then click on Browse and click on .alx file.  App loader starts with status bar and then has statement about no additional software/updates available.  I have 8110 with 4.5 software and DM is 4.7.  I know the vib & ring is ok with 8110 model.  Any help or suggestions? Thanks, Nelson

When getting this problem them main issue is that your OS does not support thw requirements of the application. For example documents to go require OS 4.5 as a minimum and if you try to install on your device using OS 4.3 you will get this error also sometimes if the application is not specified for your device you might get this error or the .alx file might be missing modules or the .alx file was not properly created with the correct modules or correct module names to load. There are also other reasons why you would get these errors I just pointed out a common one.

Once you have extraction software installed. When the file is saved. Right click on it and choose extract to oe extract here option. The file will extract then just use the application loader to find the .alx file and install
Or instead of saving you can choose the open option amd browse and find your extraction software (eg winrar.exe or winzip.exe) and choose this and it will open the file with the program and then choose extract

Here's a problem I'm running into...
I downloaded a few games listed for the Storm 95XX, such as Hero of Sparta. But when I try to load it onto my phone I get that "Unable to load application" error. So I checked the .alx file & it was listed as a 9500 Storm phone, mine is the 9530 Storm.
Could that be the reason I can't load the games on my phone??

Any help/assistance is much appreciated.

Here's your guide http://www.blackberryforums.com/909695-post4.html
Author: DJJonny    Time: 2-2-2010 05:42 AM

I've explained this quite a few times in these forums. Here is one of them.
This one also has a tutorial on making .alx files if you don't have one

First extract your downloaded package then do as I explained in thread below.

http://www.bbsgame.mobi/thread-6087-1-2.html

for .alx/.cod files

1st Extract to a folder on you PC.

-Open Desktop Manager
-Click on application loader
-Under Add or Remove Programs click on start
-Under application list click "browse".  Browse to where you extracted your alx/cod package
-Select the .alx file
-click ok >> next >> finish

App will be installed. Go into your phone and move the Icon (under downloads if you have no theme installed or straight on the app screen if you do) to what ever folder you want

for .jad/.cod packages

-Make sure Mass storage is enabled under options >> memory
-Connect your Phone to you PC using your USB cable.
-ignore the driver install window that may pop up (click cancel when able).
-Open My Computer (XP) or Computer (Vista)
-You'll notice your Blackberry will read like a usb Hard drive or Flash Disk. (files/folders on Micro sd
             card will be displayed when you open it)
-Open it and copy the extracted package to any folder
-Disconnect your Blackberry from your PC.
-Open media on your blackberry device
-Push the menu button (the one left of the trackball/pad). Select Explore
-Browse to where you copied the .jad/.cod package (under media card)
-click on the .jad file (the one around 1 to 4 kb)
-Select download and the game will install

to put  jad or jar files on just plug in your blackberry using usb cable and make sure your media card is in and set to storage mode do that in  options-advance -mediacard can choose storage mode
then put ur files in unplug blackberry from pc go to its menu and choose menu explore mediacard choose your file and run it  double click to do hope this helps

media card should show a group of folders when connected to pc

they are
pictures
video
documents
music
ringtones

when placing your jad/jar dont place inside any of the folders leave it seprate its easier to find
everying else should be place in the folders
like the music and pictures

to add anything thats in alx or cod
use the desktop manager software
choosing the blackberry to always use storage mode dosnt affect the desktop manager use

Installing .jad/.cod packages and/or making .alx files

I've been asked and answered how to to this a few times

Basically attach the phone to your PC and make sure Make sure Mass Storage Mode is on
under options >> memory on your blackberry device

The phone will read like a normal USB Hdd.
Copy the .jad /.cod package to any folder on your phone. Disconnect your phone when you're done

with OS 4.6
Open Media, Push the Blackberry button (left of the touchpad) and select explore.

with OS 5.0
Open the applications folder and click on Files

Browse to where you copied the .cod / .jad package and click on the .jad file to install.

Alternatively you can make a .alx file for your .cod file/s
open notepad and type the following html code.

<loader version="1.0">
<application id="Game Name/ID">
<name>Game Name</name>
<description>ALXmake V1.0 make</description>
<version>0</version>
<vendor>ALXmake</vendor>

<fileset Java="1.25">
<directory />
<files>
Game Cod file1.cod
Game Cod file 2.cod (if you have more than one .cod file)
</files>
</fileset>

Save as Game name.alx
type "All files"

There are apps that can do this as well. Check the software section (Sorry can't remember where)

Make sure your .alx and .cod files are in the same directory then install using desktop manager.

Open application loader >> Under Load/Delete applications click start >> Click Browse
Browse to where you extracted or copied the .alx/.cod package >>
Click next >> Click finish

Hey is anyone else logging in points to win free prizes from the Mystic Oracle Slot Machine.https://play.google.com/store/se ... +machine&c=apps ?  I am no expert at playing slots but this doesn't seem like gambling to me.  It's a free game where you just keep winning points.  I don't know how many points I need to win big prizes but I'm setting up an account so I can play online too (games.maars.net).

A buddy of mine earned points and won a free ipod as a prize.  I'll try to find out from him how many points he used to win an ipod but I'm sure to win a free Caribbean cruise for 2 prize is much more points.  He should have saved his slot machine points for something bigger than a free ipod.

it's so good! but i am a fans of goophone. As a Goophone fans, I used the Goophone for many years. and the Goophone is very excellent, espcially the Goophone Y5 ,but it doesn’t have 3G function.Now,goophone MTK6575 was show on the mark. It’s excellent quality and faster speed .That’s wonderful !Goophone fans will like it very much. let’s buy goophone Y5 for support it. come on ,guys! you are worth it.
